Dhruv Dadhania Wins Oratorical contest 
Congratulations to 7th grader Dhruv Dadhania for winning first place at the South Seminole Optimist International Oratorical Contest on Friday, March 30th. Dhruv will advance to the zone competition on April 17th. This year’s topic: “How My Optimism Helps Me Overcome Obstacles” has proven especially challenging for students; requiring reflection, insight, and thoughtful communication.

Congratulations Sanford Poetry Winners
Congratulations to Makayla Rape, Kristen Swinski, and Shreya Ramnath for having winning entries for the Florida State Poets Association 2011-12 Contest. The winners were among only 18 who were recognized from the state of Florida. Their poems will be featured in the student section of the FSPA's 2012 anthology, and they will now be entered in the national Manningham Trust Student Contest.

Sanford Student Wins Seminole County Spelling Bee
Congratulations to Sanford Middle School student Kendall McDonald for winning the Seminole County Spelling Bee held last Friday at the Educational Support Center in Sanford. Middle school students from all Seminole County schools were eligible to compete in this competition. Kendall will now move on to compete in the upcoming Orlando Sentinel 53rd Annual Spelling Bee. The Orlando Sentinel Spelling Bee is one of the largest spelling competitions in the Country. Held on Tuesday, March 27th from 10am-2pm, the Spelling Bee includes four levels with students from grades 4-8. 16 finalists from Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Volusia and Marion counties will compete for the top trophy. The winner from the Sentinel Bee will go on to Washington, DC for nationals. Good luck Kendall! |

South Seminole Optimist Oratorical Contest

Sanford Middle School students competed at the South Seminole Optimist's Oratorical Contest on Wednesday, April 14th, in Altamonte Springs. Saurabh Sudesh and Sandhya Shankar came in first place; Samuel Brenner received second; and Max Schuman was third place. The judges were very impressed with each and every speaker, and stated the scores were extremely close. Sandhya and Saurabh will compete on May 4, 2010 for a chance at the $2,500 scholarship awarded at the district level. Additional photos below:
