SMS Chorus Program

The SMS Chorus has a wonderful tradition of excellence.  If you would like more information than is provided below, please feel free to contact Ms. Wilcox the Chorus Director.  Currently, there are 3 choirs- a Beginning Women's Chorus, Advanced Women's Chorus, and Men's Chorus.  Chorus is much like a sports or other team-- the members must work together in order to create or accomplish something larger than oneself.  In the case of chorus we create and present music of many cultures to share with others.  Life skills such as dedication, preparedness, teamwork and leadership are developed when students engage in choral singing.  Performances offer an opportunity for students to present what they work so hard on each day, and to share music with family, friends, and the community.

Third Annual Guys Day of Singing

On Saturday, January 30th over 300 male singers from 5th grade through high school participated in the Third Annual Guys Day of Singing. Sanford Middle School had eleven students participate in this event. The purpose of this day is to give male students the chance to experience singing with other guys in a setting focused on their current vocal development.  The day is spent learning music in two choirs; one for unchanged voices and one for changed voices. Each choir performs in a concert at the end of the day. The final piece is sung by all 300 singers in both groups. Below are pictures from the event. (click on the picture to enlarge)
