Congratulations go to our Sanford Middle School Odyssey of the Mind problem #4 structure team A. They competed in the Florida Odyssey of the Mind state championship at UCF on April 14th and earned third place! Members of the team include 8th graders Marcus Henderson, Jared Reddecliff, Mohammad Masri, Patrick Cole, Chase Bumgarner, Aditya Lellapalli Ramakrishnan and 7th grader Matthew Swiatek. The team was coached by Sandra and Curtis Reddecliff. This team worked for many months on their solution, and is to be commended for their hard work.
Sanford Middle School sponsored five Odyssey of the Mind teams this year. All competed at the Magic Region championship at Seminole High School on February 24th with two teams placing in the top five. Problem #4 structure team B placed 4th and team A placed 3rd and continued on to the State finals. Many more SMS students signed up to participate in Odyssey this year, but were unable to compete due to lack of coaches. If you are interested in coaching or your child is interested in participating, there will be a meeting at the beginning of the next school year.

SMS Odyssey of the Mind Teams Compete at Regional Competition
Congratulations to all Odyssey of the Mind teams who competed this past February’s regional tournament. All performances were highly creative and polished. Every participant should feel very proud for solving the extremely difficult long term problems and bringing them before a group of judges. Special congratulations to the teams that will be competing at the state tournament in April. See the bottom of the page for pictures from the competition. The following teams were recognized at the Odyssey of the Mind Awards Ceremony-- Team #1 1st Place (moving on the State Finals) Team #2 1st Place (moving on to State Finals) Team #3 3rd Place (1st Place in Spontaneous) Team #4 A 5th Place Team #4 B 3rd Place (moving on the State Finals) Team #5 A 9th Place Team #5 B 5th Place Team #5 C 10th Place Teams of five to seven students solved specific long-term problems over the course of several months and presented these solutions in eight minute skits for a panel of judges. The other half of the competition was Spontaneous, where the team learns of the problem when they arrive in the Spontaneous Room. All teammates committed to working together without any outside assistance, including adult or coach suggestions, for both long-term and Spontaneous rounds—making the challenge very difficult. Both long-term and Spontaneous solutions were scored on teamwork, creativity and series of specific requirements. The long-term problems for this year are summarized below.
