What are extensions?
An extension attempts to “list” or extend ideas related to the bare idea but does not provide the reader with any details. For example: I like going to baseball games with my Dad. (bare idea) We catch fly balls with my glove. (extension) We eat hotdogs and we sing at the seventh inning stretch. (extension)
| What are elaborations? An elaboration attempts to provide details about an extended idea. It is an up close, detailed look at the extension. For example: I like going to baseball games with my Dad. (bare idea) We catch fly balls with my glove. (extension) I remember one time a ball got hit right behind me. (elaboration) It bounced and landed right in a guys lap, hit his hotdog and spilled mustard everywhere. (elaboration) He got to keep the ball and I think it was worth it. (elaboration) From Kathy Orapallo “Scaffolds not Crutches”
