The State Attorney and Sheriff's Office sponsors the Red Ribbon Week poster and essay contest for students in 5th - 8th grades. The winning posters are used in the production of the 2009 Drug Free Calendar. The awards ceremony will be held Thursday, December 3rd at Winter Springs High School. Sanford Middle School's Kaitlynn Dyess 8th grade 2nd place winner will be featured in the 2010 calendar.Sanford Middle School had 4 Essay Contest Winners, Jack Oliver-Phillips 6th grade 3rd place, Craig Stuart 7th grade 3rd place, Avina Vyas 7th grade 2nd place and Shelby Buchanan 7th grade 1st place.
Sanford Seminole Art Show
This past weekend (Feb.28th & March 1st) at the Sanford Seminole Art Show one of our students, Elizabeth Hertko received the People's Choice Award. Congratulations Liz!!
Reflections Winners
Almost 2,500 students from 43 Seminole County schools participated in Reflections, the National PTA’s annual arts program. Students submitted entries in one or more of six arts areas (Visual Arts; Photography; Literature; Musical Composition; Dance Choreography; and Film Production) inspired by the theme “WOW!” Sanford Middle School has more winners then ever before. This is WOW!!! Over 550 entries were judged at the county level, and the three winners in each category/grade division will go on to compete at State. Thanks to all the students who participated in Reflections this year, and congratulations to the winners and the Honorable Mention award winners.
The following Sanford students are the Seminole County winners, and their work will go on to compete at the State level. Wish them luck.

Teen Read Fest Competition
The Teen Read Fest was held November 6th at 7:00 PM at the Seminole County Board of County Commissioners Chambers in Sanford. Nathaniel Shepherd's poem "Home" and Sally Compton's poem "Piano" were selected as winning poems in the competition.
